Argentina reserve results: the price of wins and losses

The Argentina Reserve League 2022 is over and it’s time to review the results. Argentina reserve results came as a surprise, because already in the middle of the game many doubted that Boca could repeat last year’s success and reclaim first place in the championship. But the team once again confirmed their dominance and now they have begun their preparations for the upcoming professional league, which is scheduled to begin in January 2023.

This Reserve League season has been full of surprises, from the pause in matches due to the pandemic to the departure of the most promising teams in the semi-finals. Most experts were outright saying that River Plate would be in the final battle, but the team failed to score the required number of points in Group B and left the League. We will report on the ups and downs of the finalists below.

Boca: from loss to domination

The Reserve League lasted more than half a year in total. During that time, several hundred games have been played and 28 teams have taken part, featuring novice athletes and well-known footballers who have decided to return to the sport to recover from injuries. Boca have been known to fans for years, as this is not the first time they have taken part in the Reserve League. In 2021, they got an easy win and after the team’s first few games, there was no doubt in anyone’s mind that they would secure a place in the final.

But 2022 was not that easy for the team. Perhaps the difficulties in the first round were due to a change of some players or there were more worthy opponents in the new season. Boca got a few losses at the start of the Reserve League:

  1. Aldosivi. In the game against Aldosivi, Boca got their first loss in the League, before that there was also no success – the first match was a draw. After the game with Rosario Central, Independiente, Urakan, the score was also the same.
  2. Lanús. After three wins by a narrow margin, Boca faced another setback. It lost to Lanus with a score of 3-1.
  3. Tiger. Boca’s next loss was to Team Tigres, but this result was not as significant as the following defeats.
  4. Arsenal Sarandi, Union Santa Fe, Banfield. In these matches, Boca also failed to win and it was decisive for the team – they did not qualify for the play-offs.

In the second round, Boca rectified the situation and started earning points. The team had several wins in a row and draws, so they started to climb up the rankings a bit. One particularly significant game was against Crested Goda, where Boca won 6-0. But the main win before the final was the game against Newell’s, thanks to which Boca was able to score the necessary points to qualify for the final. Despite being close to relegation, Boca were able to rehabilitate themselves and, as a result, were their best of the season. Unlike Lanus, who had been impressive from the opening days and became the biggest disappointment of the season without scoring a single goal in the final.

Which teams are competing in the Professional League 2023?

While the Regional League is primarily aimed at finding young and talented Argentine players, the Professional League is a competition between teams already established in the country. In 2023, we will be able to watch these teams compete:

  • Aldosivi
  • Argentinian Juniors
  • Arsenal
  • Atletico Tucumán.
  • Banfield
  • Boca Juniors
  • Central Cordoba (Santiago del Estero)
  • Colón
  • Hurricane
  • Lanus
  • Newells
  • Platense
  • Racine Club
  • River Plate
  • San Lorenzo
  • Sarmiento

All the teams have shown good results in the Reserve League and will now continue to fight for the championship in the new tournament. Many already see Boca and Lanús clashing again, although there is a chance that the teams won’t meet in the final. But we will probably find out in 2023.
