Animals no longer show fear of Man, what do they know?

This blog has chronicled the rise of unusual attacks on humans by animals, a prelude to 2012?  This blog believes that these unusual attacks come from the animals sensing  the END of the Dominion of Man.

This time it is bears again, acting very unusual. “COLUMBIA STATION, Ohio – A bear owned by a man who used to offer people the chance to wrestle the animals mauled its 24-year-old caretaker to death during a feeding on property ….

Brent Kandra, of Elyria, died Friday morning at MetroHealth Medical Center, the coroner’s office in Cleveland said. He had been taken by medical helicopter after the Thursday evening attack in Columbia Township.

The bear was out of its cage for its feeding, “which was normal for this particular bear because the caretaker and the owner had been around it so much,”

“After cogitating on this a few days I had to reply.Part of the response is to refer to the blog on BULLS and WHALES.

The rest goes like this:

I believe the Dominion of Man started downhill with the testing of the nuclear bomb prior to Hiroshima. This sounds obvious, but let me expound.

At that point, America was shifting away from a society of pathfinders who were good with the skills necessary to survive in the wilderness. How many veterans came home who had hunted before the war, and vowed never to hunt again afterward.

The lure of jobs that made money, along with the G.I. Bill helped the economy boom. A lot of farm boys never went back to the farm. With money, folks who had endured the depression ATE BETTER. Their health improved, and they began to grow around the middle.

Fewer true outdoors men was the result. The population in many places has chased the game out. Look at how much wildlife come into towns in Colorado to eat in the yards and trashcans of the populace. On the other hand, hunting is dear to many hearts where I live. Wild game is a healthy food. Ask Ted Nugent. The population today consists of a lot of folk who want to “get back” to nature, but might go about it the wrong way.

A bear in a mammal who was invented to be the bull of the woods. They are dangerous. They are a WILD ANIMAL. Treadwell erroneously believed that he could do a Vulcan mind-meld with a bear. He would have been better off to view their habits about 200 yards away with a back-up man carrying a Winchester rifle for safety purposes. (Safety First!) I admire the folk who bring in the footage of wildlife, but Dr. Temple Grandin won’t go in a pen of bulls alone because the threat of not coming out unscathed is real.

This brings me back to why I believe that man has slid down the food chain a bit. Why not? We as a society eat too well. We are FAT. Not grossly overweight fat but, well-fed fat. Our grease would satisfy any grizzly, panther, wolf, or coyote that had it in his mind to drag us down and feast on us. We TASTE GOOD. We are not the run of the mill quarry in the wild with a gamey taste. There is so much sugar in our veins that we are confections in running shoes to a true wild carnivore.

Consider this, Apaches lived off the land for centuries. They had a diet of buffalo, mountain lion, plants from the desert, and in a pinch they had mobile food-the horse. Apaches preferred above all, MULE MEAT. The reason: it was GRAIN FED by settlers and the army. It tasted better than anything they had. It was like candy to them.

Yeah, I’d say the bears sense a weakness in Man.”

Animals no longer show fear of Man, what do they know?

This blog has chronicled the rise of unusual attacks on humans by animals, a prelude to 2012.  This blog believes that these unusual attacks come from the animals sensing  the END of the Dominion of Man. Now these unusual attacks are invading suburban areas, by animals who are very wise about guns(See Below)

“The attacker pounced from behind a large rock as 3-year-old Erika Attar played outside her home. “Mommy!” shrieked a playmate as the girl struggled to break free. Erika’s father dashed across the yard, and the startled predator vanished into the dusk.

Police issued an alert to warn locals of what had become frighteningly clear: Rye has coyotes, and the ones prowling the leafy town have engaged in some un-coyote-like behavior, such as ambushing children in residential neighborhoods. On June 29, the Tuesday after the first attack, two coyotes dashed across a sidewalk and leapt on Emily Hodulik, 6, as she played outside her home.”This is an extraordinary situation we’re dealing with,” the police commissioner, William Connors, told a town meeting. “There will always be a crisis … but this is certainly the most unusual one I’ve encountered in 30 years in this business.”

Both girls survived with cuts and scratches,

. Black bears, white-tailed deer and coyotes have lived near residential areas for decades, but encounters with their human neighbors usually are accidental. That seems to be changing, at least for coyotes, who have popped up everywhere from Manhattan’s cafe-lined streets to Columbia University to the golf courses, cemetery and main drag of downtown Rye. Dogs, cats and now children have been targets.

Simply tranquilizing the animals and releasing them elsewhere won’t fix the problem because the coyotes prowling Rye clearly have lost their shyness around humans, city officials say.

In addition to the shoot-to-kill orders, the campaign includes measures that sound more suitable to a counter-insurgency campaign than an animal infestation. Helicopters equipped with infrared heat-seeking devices have been called in for aerial surveillance to assist ground forces pursuing coyotes; traps have been set in wooded areas; a special coyote-focused police unit has been established.

Summer day camps have received special attention. Counselors are urged to carry air horns to blast at approaching coyotes. But no coyotes have been shot, evidence of their elusive nature and of the risks of waging urban warfare in a populated suburb.

Shortly after Erika was jumped, police spotted a coyote in the cemetery but couldn’t open fire because of nearby traffic. The night after Emily was attacked, officers saw a coyote trotting through a golf course, a woodchuck in its mouth.

As the police car drove parallel to the animal, the coyote occasionally stopped and glanced at its pursuers, holding tight to its furry prey. When the car stopped and an officer aimed his gun at the coyote, Connors said, it dropped the woodchuck and “took off like a shot.”

First Recorded Bear Attack In Kentucky History

Saturday, July 3rd, 2010

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – A hiker who was attacked by a black bear in eastern Kentucky …

The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources says the incident Sunday was the first recorded bear attack on a person in the state.

Scott, 56, of Springfield, was hiking in the Red River Gorge Geological Area ahead of his wife and son on Sunday when he spotted the bear about 25 feet away. He said it appeared to be about 150 pounds and he took a few photos with his cell phone until the bear disappeared under a ledge. Scott said he was about to call his wife to tell her to take another trail when the bear reappeared.

Scott said he yelled and dropped his belt bag hoping to distract the animal. But the bear sniffed it and continued approaching Scott, who grabbed a rotted branch.

Alone, Scott hit the bear with the flimsy branch, but the animal kept coming.

Scott tried to move behind a tree for protection a couple of times, but he said the bear grabbed him by the leg and threw him into the woods. Then, it sank its teeth into his thigh and shook him.

Scott said he crawled over to the other hikers and the group backed down the path for a quarter mile, with the bear following them.

Black bears, which were common in Kentucky more than 100 years ago, disappeared due to over-hunting and loss of habitat. Over the past 20 years, they have found their way back from neighboring states such as Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia. ”

Wolves Not Waiting For 2012, Kill Teacher In Alaska

Sunday, March 14th, 2010
“Reporting from Seattle
by Kim Murphy

Hunters were combing the snowy brush around Chignik Lake, Alaska, on Friday in an attempt to hunt down up to four wolves that killed a 32-year-old special education teacher in the first known fatal wolf attack in the U.S. in modern times.

But the wolves were elusive, and villagers were hoping that state game officials would send in a helicopter to help track the animals, Village Council President Johnny Lind said.

“They’ve been looking and scouting around, and the wolves are definitely still around, but they’re smart, and they take off before you can get close to them,” Lind said.

Candice Berner, a special education teacher who traveled among several rural schools on the Alaska Peninsula, 475 miles southwest of Anchorage, was attacked while jogging and listening to her iPod Monday evening on the deserted, 3-mile-long road that leads out from the village to its small airstrip.

A native of Slippery Rock, Pa., she had been working in Alaska only since August. Her body was found by snowmobilers a short time after the attack. It had been dragged off the road and partially eaten, and was surrounded by wolf prints.

……the wolves have been increasingly threatening to people in the area,” said Megan Peters, spokeswoman for the Alaska State Troopers. “They’ve been getting too close, circling, making people fearful for their safety.”

Christi Aleck, another resident of the village, said that while there are always wolves in the area, three to four have been lingering unusually close over the past week or so and have been sighted again since the attack.

“They come in at nighttime, not very far from the village, and they’re just kind of watching,” she said. “They’re waiting for somebody else to go out again, I guess.”

“People are scared. Oh yeah, they’re scared,” she said. “Nobody’s walking around anywhere. I mean, wolves have always hung around in the wintertime, but they’ve never attacked anyone.”

The only known previous fatal wolf attack in North America over the last 100 years occurred in 2005, when a young geology student was attacked and partially eaten by a pack of wolves in northern Saskatchewan.”

Whale kills Trainer at SeaWorld….The Rise of SNORKY

Thursday, February 25th, 2010

On Novemer 1st 2000, the  TV show, THE SIMPSONS ran an episode, NIGHT OF THE DOLPHIN, about a dolphin who decides to wreck a terrible vengeance on humans.

Since then I have been a fervent follower of strange animal attacks on humans. Lately, perhaps as a run up to 2012, every animal imaginable has been killing humans…kangaroos, wolves, dogs, moose, and now whales.

WHALE KILLS TRAINER

“ORLANDO, Fla. – Officials in Floridasay a veteran 40-year-old trainer at SeaWorld was killed by a whale …He says the trainer was one of the park’s most experienced.

Spectator Victoria Biniak told WKMG-TV that the trainer had just finished explaining to the audience a show they were about to see Wednesday when the whale appeared to grab the trainer and thrash her around.

Brown says SeaWorld has never experienced an incident like this.”

Now check out the plot of THE NIGHT OF THE DOLPHIN,

“While at Springfield’s Marine World, Lisa takes pity on the star attraction — a dolphin named Snorky, whose trainers let him be humiliated and forced to do demeaning stunts for the crowd’s amusement. After Snorky’s latest show, Lisa sets the dolphin free to swim in the ocean. Unbeknownst to Lisa, Snorky is actually the leader of the world’s dolphins bent on leading his army to destroy humanity. The dolphins begin their war by attacking Springfield, first killing Lenny during a night swim in the ocean and the Sea Captain (who claims he can stop them) before marching towards the town on their tails. Snorky then interrupts a town meeting, takes the stage and tells Springfield that dolphins used to live on land, but were banished to the ocean by humans, and, now that Snorky has reclaimed his throne as king, he banishes all mankind to live underwater. The humans decide not to submit to the dolphins’ will without a fight…only to leave town hall to find the dolphins greatly outnumber them. As the humans walk out of the hall, Lisa sees a small dolphin with a set of bottle rings around its face, she takes it off, and is bitten. Furious, Homer retaliates by punching the dolphin, and then encourages the townspeople to fight back. A battle ensues between the dolphins and the humans, with heavy casualties on both sides. Homer leads the survivors in a final charge to drive the dolphins back to the sea. In a twist ending, it’s revealed that humanity has lost and the residents of Springfield are now adjusting to their new life as marine animals.”

ATTACK Of The Killer Petunias and Murderous Potatoes

Monday, December 14th, 2009
Petunias and potatoes may actually be carnivorous plants, scientists now suggest.
Indeed, carnivorous behavior may be far more widespread in plants than commonly thought - if we take a closer look, botanists said.

At least six different kinds of killer plants have been recognized since the time of Darwin, such as Venus flytraps, which snares insects between its jaw-like leaves, and pitcher plants, which capture victims in slippery pits. These plants apparently target animals to supplement their growth in harsh, nutrient-poor habitats.

Many other plants, some quite common, have also been suggested as potential carnivores over the years that have failed to gain wide acceptance as such thus far. Petunias and potatoes, for instance, have sticky hairs that trap insects, and several species of campion flowers have the common name catchfly for the same reason.

“We may be surrounded by many more murderous plantsthan we think,” said botanist Mark Chase, Keeper of the Jodrell Laboratory at the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew in England.

Cryptic carnovores

Chase and his colleagues reviewed all the research so far on carnivorous plants. A number of plants might actually be carnivorous, they noted, but merely go about their murderous business in a subtler manner than their more conspicuous cousins.

For instance, the cross-leaved heath (Erica tetralix) is not typically considered a carnivorous plant, but this pink flower possesses sticky, adhesive glands and dwells in poor soils. Also, while carnivorous seeds might be a strange concept, those of the shepherd’s purse (Capsella bursa-pastoris) possesses a sticky layer with chemicals that can attract, kill and digest victims.

Sophisticated plants

Although Chase feels there is more than just circumstantial evidence that demonstrates how widespread carnivorous plants are, to prove the point, researchers can dose insects with mildly radioactive nutrients.

Scientists can then track such molecules to see if the plants are really absorbing them, which would show they are benefiting from killing prey.
“What plants are doing is much more sophisticated than we ever imagined,” Chase said. “Although animals are eating plants, plants are also eating animals. It’s not just a one-way street.”

This blog has discussed the rise of killer animals and the impending fall of the Dominion of Man, but perhaps what we are really witnessing is the Rise Of Plants and the Fall of Animals.

If that is the case, I would assume the killer plants will kill Vegans first, since vegans are the biggest threat to their existence. Meat Eaters seemingly will have a longer longevity. I am off to McDonalds, and not for salad.

“the improbable has become probable”….Moose not Husband Suspected Killer

Tuesday, December 1st, 2009

STOCKHOLM, Sweden - Swedish police say they’ve cleared a man who was arrested for allegedly killing his wife after deciding the culprit was most likely a moose.
Police spokesman Ulf Karlsson says “the improbable has become probable” in the puzzling death last year of 63-year old Agneta Westlund. She was found dead after an evening stroll in the forest.
According to news reports, the victim’s husband Ingemar Westlund, was jailed for 10 days. The case against him was dropped in January.

The tabloid Expressen says hairs and saliva from a moose - aka a European elk - were found on the victim’s clothes.

NOW KANGAROOS….”Kangaroos rarely attack people”

Tuesday, November 24th, 2009

We are constantly being told that certain species will not attack man; yet these species ARE attacking men.

“Kangaroos rarely attack people”

MELBOURNE, Australia – A kangaroo startled by a man walking his dog attacked the pair, pinning the pet underwater and slashing the owner in the abdomen with its hind legs.

The Australian, Chris Rickard, was in stable condition Monday after the attack, which ended when the 49-year-old elbowed the kangaroo in the throat. He said he was walking his blue heeler, Rocky, on Sunday morning when they surprised a sleeping kangaroo in Arthur’s Creek northeast of Melbourne. The dog chased the animal into a pond, when the kangaroo turned and pinned the pet underwater.

When Rickard tried to pull his dog free, the kangaroo turned on him, attacking with its hind legs and tearing a deep gash into his abdomen and across his face.

“I thought I might take a hit or two dragging the dog out from under his grip, but I didn’t expect him to actually attack me,” Rickard, 49, told The Herald Sun newspaper. “It was a shock at the start because it was a kangaroo, about 5 feet high, they don’t go around killing people.”

Taylor Mitchell,Singer, Killed by Coyotes, first Bears, then Wolves, then Dogs, now Coyotes

Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009
  • TORONTO – Two coyotes attacked a promising young musician as she was hiking alone in a national park in eastern Canada, and authorities said she died Wednesday of her injuries.

The victim was identified as Taylor Mitchell, 19, a singer-songwriter from Toronto who was touring her new album on the East Coast.

She was hiking solo on a trail in Cape Breton Highlands National Park in Nova Scotia on Tuesday when the attack occurred. She was airlifted to a Halifax hospital in critical condition and died Wednesday morning, authorities said.

Coyotes, which also are known as prairie wolves, are found from Central America to the United States and Canada.

Wildlife biologist Bob Bancroft said coyote attacks are extremely rare because the animals are usually shy.

Bancroft, a retired biologist with Nova Scotia’s Department of Natural Resources, said it’s possible the coyotes thought Mitchell was a deer or other prey.

“It’s very unusual and is not likely to be repeated,” Bancroft said. “We shouldn’t assume that coyotes are suddenly going to become the big bad wolf.”

Royal Canadian Mounted Police spokeswomanBrigdit Leger said other hikers heard Mitchell’s screams for help on Tuesday and called emergency police dispatchers.

Police who were in the area reached the scene quickly and shot one of the animals, apparently wounding it. But the wounded animal and a companion coyote managed to get away.

Paul Maynard of Emergency Health Services said Mitchell already was in critical condition when paramedics arrived on the scene and had multiple bite wounds over her entire body.

“She was losing a considerable amount of blood from the wounds,” he said.

An official with Parks Canada said they blocked the entrance to the trail where Mitchell was attacked and were trying to find the animals to determine what prompted such an unusual attack.

“There’s been some reports of aggressive animals, so it’s not unknown,” said Helene Robichaud, the park’s superintendent. “But we certainly never have had anything so dramatic and tragic.”

Mitchell was an up-and-coming folk and country musician who was nominated for a 2009 Canadian Folk Music Award in the Young Performer of the Year category.

“Words can’t begin to express the sadness and tragedy of losing such a sweet, compassionate, vibrant, and phenomenally talented young woman,” Lisa Weitz, Mitchell’s manager, said in an e-mail. “She just turned 19 two months ago, and was so excited about the future.”
